Between January 27 and February 3, a data collection activity was carried out on buildings in selected city districts of Osijek. This activity was organized as part of the three-year Erasmus+ project Strategic Partnerships in Higher Education – Intelligent Methods for Structures, Elements, and Materials (IM4StEM). More than 20 second-year undergraduate students of Architecture and Urban Planning participated in the activity, under the coordination of Prof. Marijana Hadzima-Nyarko, Ph.D., Assoc. Prof. Ivana Brkanić-Mihić, Ph.D. and Assistant Josip Radić. Additionally, Prof. Davorin Penava, Ph.D. and Assoc. Prof. Silva Lozančić, Ph.D. took part in the data collection process.
Characteristics were collected for 200 buildings located in selected city blocks, where multi-story residential buildings prevailed. During the activity, the students determined the characteristics of the buildings based on visual observations on the site and by reviewing the available technical documentation. These characteristics included materials used, structural system type, structural regularity or irregularity, and other relevant factors.
Besides enhancing students’ understanding and knowledge of key concepts related to seismic risk, this activity also provides them with a foundation for upcoming courses closely related to reinforced concrete and masonry structures.
