Participation in the international scientific conference “19th International Scientific Conference CIBv – Civil Engineering and Building Services 2025”

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ project IM4STEM – Intelligent Methods for Structures, Elements and Materials, Prof. dr. sc. Marijana Hadzima-Nyarko participated in the international scientific conference 19th International Scientific Conference CIBv – Civil Engineering and Building Services 2025, held on November 6–7, 2025, in Brașov, Romania.

At the conference, Prof. Hadzima-Nyarko delivered an oral presentation of a scientific paper entitled
“Capacity Spectrum Approach for Assessing Seismic Vulnerability of Buildings in an Urban Area”,
co-authored by Josip Radić, Silva Lozančić, and Ercan Işık.

The presentation focused on assessing the seismic vulnerability of buildings in an urban environment using the capacity spectrum method, which links seismic demand with structural capacity and enables the determination of damage levels for different building typologies.

The study presented the development and analysis of a comprehensive building database for the city of Osijek, created through a combination of available technical documentation and field surveys conducted within the IM4STEM project. Based on these data, capacity curves and fragility curves were developed for various structural systems, allowing a probabilistic evaluation of damage levels under different earthquake scenarios.

The results highlight the high resilience of reinforced concrete buildings, while masonry structures exhibit slightly higher vulnerability, with a very low probability of complete collapse for the analysed seismic hazard levels. The research underlines the importance of systematic seismic risk assessment as a foundation for effective mitigation strategies and improved urban resilience.

The presentation represents part of the dissemination activities of the IM4STEM project, which promotes the use of digital tools, numerical modelling, and advanced analytical approaches to support research and education in earthquake engineering and sustainable development.
