Participation in the international scientific conference “20th International Scientific Conference CIBv – Civil Engineering and Building Services 2025”

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ project IM4STEM – Intelligent Methods for Structures, Elements and Materials, Prof. Dr. Ercan Işık participated as an invited speaker at the international scientific conference “20th International Scientific Conference CIBv – Civil Engineering and Building Services 2025”, held on November 6, 2025, in Brașov, Romania.

The conference was jointly organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Transylvania University of Brașov, Shenyang Jianzhu University (China), and the Technical University of Moldova, providing a strong international and interdisciplinary scientific forum.

As part of the conference programme, Prof. Işık delivered an invited lecture entitled
A Study on Comparative Analysis of RC Structures Before and After 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes”.
The lecture, conducted within the scope of the IM4STEM project, focused on the causes of damage and collapse in reinforced concrete structures, based on field observations carried out in the earthquake-affected region between April 23 and April 29, 2024, as well as earlier investigations.

The main objective of the presentation was to examine the effects of the devastating Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, which occurred on February 6, 2023, on reinforced concrete structures and to identify the structural deficiencies and reasons for their low seismic performance.

The study considered 50 different reinforced concrete structures exhibiting varying levels of damage. The buildings were analysed through a comparison of pre-earthquake and post-earthquake visual data, and the results were evaluated within the framework of earthquake engineering and civil engineering practice. For all investigated structures, structural parameters, irregularities, and damage levels were systematically classified.

The invited lecture attracted considerable interest from the international scientific community and contributed to the exchange of knowledge on seismic performance of structures, while further enhancing the visibility of the IM4STEM project in the field of advanced analytical and research-based approaches in civil engineering.
